The Access to Bluewaters Island project involves the construction of a multi-span bridge, which will connect Bluewaters Island (currently being developed by Meraas Holding) to interchange 5½ on Sheikh Zayed Road.  In particular, HLG’s scope of works comprises:

  • Multi-span bridge (on single pier for most of the spans) with a length of 1.4km and width of 25m. This section of bridge includes a GRT system (5.4m wide for 2 directions), connecting Bluewaters Island to the Metro system.
  • The main viaduct bridge, which is 25m wide, provides the electrical, telecommunication, potable water, and irrigation and sewerage services to the island.
  • 3 multi-span bridges over Sheikh Zayed Road, which are each 11.4m wide and 500m long.

HLG will also construct access ramps to and from the bridge; deliver roadway signage, markings and street lighting; provide a storm water drainage network; and complete utility diversion and protection of existing services (132kV cables, DEWA water main lines, sewerage rising main, irrigation and Etisalat services).
